US threatens to halt talks with Russia on Syria

MSF says four of the eight hospitals left in eastern Aleppo had surgical capacity prior to Wednesday's attacks on the two hospitals, which the group supports.

It was the fourth day of intense air raids on the city since a defiant Syrian regime launched a new assault, vowing to retake all of Aleppo following the collapse early last week of a short-lived ceasefire brokered by Russian Federation and the United States.

Aleppo is divided between opposition and regime forces that on Tuesday launched a ground offensive in attempt to retake the rebel-held east.

Earlier this year, President Obama said Russian Federation and Iran's intervention on behalf of Assad in Syria would lead to a "quagmire".

Debris covers streets lined with bombed-out buildings, trapping people in their neighborhoods and hindering rescue workers. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said at least 12 people, including three children, were killed in Monday's raids on several rebel-held districts.

However, later through the ceasefire, violence began to creep back into the city when a US-led airstrike killed more than 80 Syrian soldiers who had been fighting the Takfiri terrorists in the eastern parts of the country.

Over the course of the conflict, the government has slowly regained control of major cities.

The battle for the city still appears to be mired in stalemate.

Syrian aircraft have started launching "concentrated airstrikes" against militant-held areas inside and around the northwestern city of Aleppo.

The envoy, who is familiar with the cease-fire talks that have faltered, spoke on condition of anonymity because of his government's regulations.

Once all of "useful Syria" is in the regime's hands, global diplomacy would have to determine the fate of the opposition-controlled northwest and those areas dominated by YPG and DAESH.

Moscow and Washington have traded blame over the truce's collapse, with the U.S. harshly criticising Russia's participation in the Aleppo offensive.

Reuters reported clashes in the Suweiqa area of the city, quoting a senior rebel official in an Aleppo-based faction.

The two nations have been locked in talks in an attempt to revive a fragile peace agreement, but the U.S. said last week that Russian Federation had openly lied to the UN about its intentions. "There are no more cities for the FSA in Syria - they lost Homs, there is no FSA in Hama and Damascus".

The United States earlier threatened to halt its diplomacy with Russian Federation on Syria and it said it held Russian Federation accountable for the use of incendiary bombs on Aleppo.

Attempts to revive the cease-fire during the U.N. General Assembly failed, and U.S. Ambassador Samantha Powers harshly criticized Russian Federation, saying Moscow was practicing "barbarism".

Indicating there would be no respite soon, the Syrian army issued a statement reiterating its call for civilians to steer clear of rebel positions and bases in eastern Aleppo.

Some 250,000 people in eastern Aleppo, a city in northern Syria, are still without safe drinking water after a pumping station was hit by attacks on September 22, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported on Tuesday.

Residents are stunned by the intensity of the bombing on areas that have seen a sharp increase in food prices due to the siege, which tightened earlier this month.

Syrian state TV said troops captured Farafra, near Aleppo's famous citadel, and that fighting was underway near the historic core of the northern city.
