Thousands arrive for today's Jacob Wetterling memorial

The "Running HOME for Jacob 5K" will be held in his honor by the JWRC at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

The St. Cloud Times (http://on.sctimes.com/2d9n1hb ) reports thousands filled Clemens Field House at the College of St. Benedict in Jacob's hometown of St. Joseph.

Seating is full, but there will be an overflow area on the CSB campus with a simulcast of the service.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton and U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken. Once inside and programs in hand, attendees had before them a photo montage of Jacob's brief life flashing across screens in the front of the hall.

The man who confessed to abducting and killing Jacob will be sentenced in November on a federal child pornography charge.

The memorial service for Jacob Wetterling is set for Sunday, Sept. 25.

St Ben's President Mary Hinton offered support and gratitude to the Wetterlings.

Jacob Wetterling, the 11-year-old son of Patty and Jerry Wetterling, was abducted the night of October 22, 1989, just outside of St. Joseph.

The service featured a boys' choir, the reading of a Native American prayer and the playing of Jacob's favorite song, "Listen" by folk singer Red Grammer.

The family is asking memorials are sent to the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children or your preferred children's organization. "Jacob, we'll still carry you in our hearts and our love for you will never die".

Danny Heinrich, who is suspected in Jacob Wetterling's abduction, led authorities to a location in Stearns County where Jacob's remains were found, sources told KSTP.
