High demand for Zika testing brings CDC to Fla

Consequently, according to the CDC, there have been 2,964 reported cases of the Zika virus in the USA (22 in Arizona), 671 pregnant women with the lab evidence of possible Zika virus, 17 infants with microcephaly or other birth defects, and three infant deaths.

He remains in stable condition and is now receiving an additional test at a Seoul hospital, KCDC officials said.

Studies like these are important to understand the effects of the virus on healthy adults, Schaffner said, adding: "Every time you seem to lift up a corner there's something else that Zika is involved in".

Despite a rapid increase in the number of Zika-infected patients reported earlier this month in Thailand, the public have been left in the dark about the virus.

"A high proportion of mothers of newborns with and without microcephaly had been infected with Zika virus, reflecting the rapid spread of Zika infection in this region".

First, because the Ministry of Public Health keeps downplaying public fear of the outbreak despite 23 new cases - including that of a pregnant woman - reported countrywide since last week, 15 of them in Bangkok's Sathon district.

The virus, which is affecting large parts of Latin America and the Caribbean, has been circulating in Asia for years. Governments have since warned their citizens about travelling to areas where the Zika virus is spreading actively.

"Since a rash of microcephaly cases in Brazil previous year coincided with an unprecedented outbreak of Zika, anecdotal and observational evidence has pointed to a connection between microcephaly and Zika infection in mothers". Brazil is one of the countries most severely affected by the Zika virus outbreak.

Rick Scott had the right intentions; in August, Scott announced that the state would be offering free Zika tests from state-run labs to pregnant women.

Zika is responsible for thousands of foetal deformities across the developing world. All cases acquired the infection while traveling overseas.

The WHO estimates that more than a 1 million people have been infected with the Zika virus. It can also be contracted through blood transfusions and sexual contact. Microcephaly is a birth defect linked to the Zika virus where infants are born with abnormally small heads.

The agency requires donors to contact the Red Cross if they develop Zika-like symptoms within 14 days of their donation.

For expectant mothers who value convenience and a quick answer over saving money, LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics also offer Zika tests.
