Heavyweight title rematch between Fury, Klitschko called off

Boxing pundit Steve Bunce says he would be "stunned" if IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua doesn't meet either fellow title holder Tyson Fury or former world champion Wladimir Klitschko by the end of 2017.

Tyson Fury was declared medically unfit to fight Wladimir Klitschko.

Fury claimed a shock win over Klitschko, the Ukrainian's first defeat in a decade, to take the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Organisation and International Boxing Federation belts in a points decision in Duesseldorf last November. They were scheduled to have a rematch in July, but Fury withdrew with an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn, IBF champion Anthony Joshua's promoter, revealed yesterday that talks have taken place to secure a Joshua-Klitschko fight. He is seeking help, there will be a statement issued probably Tuesday and basically nothing means anything, so he's at an all-time low.

"I think he has said on many occasions: 'What's it for?"

"When we were overseas in Holland we had various issues with him - he was snapping a lot, and although he was coming to the gym his mind was elsewhere some days".

Tyson's brother Peter Fury also wrote a concerning Tweet regarding the cancellation, saying "With Tysons condition he cannot be held culpable", and promising there will be a "detailed statement coming soon on health".

If Tyson Fury's objective was to end the most godawful heavyweight title reign in boxing history and start one even more godawful, then he's certainly on his way to achieving his goal. Multiple sources with knowledge of the correspondence between Fury's camp and Klitschko's camp on Friday said it included a letter from Fury's doctor.

"It's very disappointing for me... he's been driven underground with it". He is seeking help. "We hope Wladimir can fight again soon". I'm not interested in Tyson getting in there at 50 percent Tyson and endangering himself. I think he needs a little bit of time out.

The statement from Hennessey Sports didn't disclose the exact nature of the problem, but indicated that the condition 'is too severe to allow him to participate'.

As things stand it's believed Fury's camp and Klitschko's camp will try and rearrange the bout for a third time.

"We want to fight Tyson Fury really, that's a unification fight between two Brits in the heavyweight division, that's never happened before and it'll never again".
