Matt Damon continues long-running "feud" with Jimmy Kimmel at Emmys
For over 10 years now, late night host Jimmy Kimmel and award-winning actor Matt Damon have engaged in a hilarious feud, so there was no way Damon was going to let the Emmys go by without poking some fun at his rival (and friend), Kimmel. "It's called the Maggie Smith rule".
The 2016 Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama series victor found Kimmel's attack amusing and responded via a statement, in which she wrote: "I was very astonished and pleased to win the award".
Masterpiece PBS, home to Downton Abbey, posted Smith's acceptance note on Twitter Monday afternoon, saying: "Dame Maggie Smith graciously accepts her Emmy award" and that Kimmel "please advise on the location of the lost and found!" "If you run a positive campaign, the voters ultimately will make the right choice, Jimmy", Bush said, alluding to his unsuccessful primary fights with Donald Trump, the Republican nominee. "I play a young man who is, I think, like so many of us, profoundly alienated", he told the crowd. "I just wanted to see what you guys would do".
The Bourne Identity star walked on stage eating an apple and said to the host, "I missed the last category". The pause was for the now-required feed-the-guests bit, and the host brought out on bikes, of course the young cast from the Netflix sci-fi thriller to deliver what he said were 7,000 sandwiches his mother had made.
In a nod to his famous logo, Bush then yelled "Jeb Exclamation Point!" as he drove off, leaving Kimmel standing his dust. Kimmel even managed to mock people who shy away from gluten and take a jab at the makers of the EpiPen.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who won her fifth consecutive statuette for her role as president in HBO's "Veep", set the tone for the evening apologizing for "the current political climate".
The actress then took an emotional turn, and tearfully thanked her late father, who died Friday. "And I'm so glad that he liked "Veep" because his opinion was the one that really mattered". When she won later in the night, Kimmel came onstage, grabbed the trophy and said, "No, no, no".
She continued: "This is otherizing with a capital O, and has been used in our history before to start and win wars, and he needs to be called out every chance he gets for being one of the most unsafe monsters to ever approach our lifetimes".
