Obama, Netanyahu to Meet at UN

President Barack Obama will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel in ny this week as the White House considers laying out its proposed framework for Middle East peace over the objections of the Israeli leader.

The Obama administration has recently been at odds with the government of Israel, especially with respect to the Iran nuclear agreement, which Tel Aviv has adamantly opposed.

The White House stressed the urgency of advancing a two-state solution "in the face of deeply troubling trends on the ground", spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Mr Obama is expected to arrive late Sunday in NY for his final attendance at the UN General Assembly before he leaves office in January.

According to Army Radio, accompanying Netanyahu on the trip will be Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon, who he would like to see rejoin his Likud party.

This will be Obama's last trip to attend the annual gathering of global leaders as president. It is expected to be their last before Obama leaves office in January.

Former prime minister Ehud Barak, former defense minister Moshe Ya'alon and former head of IDF military intelligence Amos Yadlin have all accused Netanyahu of settling for a smaller amount.

Israel and the United States signed the 10-year Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos are among the leaders he is scheduled to meet.

Last week, Netanyahu described the new military deal between the U.S. and Israel as "historic".

He warned that the White House demand in the pact that Israel buy military hardware from USA contractors - and not the Israeli defense industry - would backfire.

Netanyahu, however, swatted away criticism of the deal Sunday while addressing his weekly cabinet meeting. We weren't offered more money, not even a single dollar more, and we weren't offered special technologies. I would like to make it clear: we have never been offered more.

"I'm hearing so much background noise and disinformation regarding the agreement", the prime minister said.
