Authorities say two sets of lucky scavengers played roles in the investigation of the bombing spree that terrorized people in NY and New Jersey over the weekend.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, the man wanted for questioning in connection with bombings in NY and Seaside Park, New Jersey, is also believed to be connected to the pipe bombs found in a backpack Sunday night in Elizabeth, New Jersey, sources said.

A day earlier, two men walking down a New York City street made off with what looked like an abandoned wheeled backpack.

He said the Union County bomb squad's robotic device indicated that the package the men left near the train trestle could be a live bomb, adding that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and state police would decide how to remove the device.

Ahmad Khan Rahami- the same man wanted in connection with Saturday's bombing in NY - has been arrested in connection with the explosion in New Jersey.

No one was injured in the blast that followed a series of attacks in the United States over the weekend, including the Saturday night bombing that hurt 29 people in Manhattan.

It contained up to five devices, Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage said.

The FBI's Newark office tweeted that its bomb technicians had responded to the scene, along with investigators from Union County and the State Police of New Jersey.

Amtrak's Northeast Corridor service is operating on a modified schedule. Also Saturday, a pipe bomb exploded about an hour from the Elizabeth train station in Seaside Park, New Jersey, forcing the cancellation of a military charity 5K run.

"It's hard to say right now if they at all, inadvertently perhaps even, pulled a wire", Boyce said. I'm guessing maybe they didn't actually drop it since they suspected it was a bomb but they did put it down where they were standing and immediately called the police.

The station, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, was evacuated alongside businesses in the surrounding area.

New Jersey Transit trains resumed service along the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line, but there are delays.

Millions of New York residents were asked via a cellphone alert to call 911 if they saw Rahami, according to the New York Times and USA Today. One of the bombs detonated as a robot tried to disarm it.

Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said that the device exploded shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday.

The FBI issued a statement: There was a suspicious package with multiple improvised explosive devices this evening at the Elizabeth Train Station in NJ.

The two men reported seeing wires and a pipe coming out of the package. Within hours of the explosion, police located a second device in Manhattan and removed it with no explosion. New Jersey-bound Amtrak trains were being held at New York Penn Station, officials said, while New York-bound Amtrak trains were being held in Trenton.
