'No matter the price', Amal Clooney seeks justice for Yazidi sex slaves

While appearing on NBC's Today, the 38-year-old attorney and activist sat alongside her new client, Nadia Murad and said she had an ambitious plan to try the terror group for crimes against humanity.

Amal's client Nadia was taken by IS as a sex slave when she was 19 years old and said she was raped by multiple men until she "fell unconscious".

She announced in June she would represent Yazidi women in Iraq who have been victims of sexual slavery, rape and genocide by Islamic State militants, also known as ISIS. "I think the worldwide community should be ashamed that they haven't done more for the Yazidis".

Amal Clooney said that ISIS can't just be bombed because you don't kill an idea that way. "We did discuss it and we are aware in some of the risks involved", she said.

World-renowned lawyer and human rights advocate Amal Clooney spoke before the United Nations last week, saying that she is "ashamed" as a supporter of the U.N., as a lawyer, and as a human being of the inaction that she is seeing in the face of the genocide of the Yazidis and other minorities by the Islamic State, or ISIS.

Amal Clooney is going after the leaders of ISIS.

Amal is making the legal case to world leaders and diplomats for taking IS to court for genocide.

Amal admits she couldn't just "walk away" from the "harrowing" case because the horrific details of Nadia's time in captivity really rocked her to her core.

"He (George) met Nadia too, and I think he was moved for the same reasons", Amal said.

According to the British paper The Independent, in her speech at Murad's September 16 induction ceremony as Goodwill Ambassador, Clooney noted that it was her first time speaking in the chamber of the United Nations headquarters in NY, and stressed that "I wish I could say I'm proud to be here but I am not".

"And he understood. I mean, this is my work".

"I was used in the way that they wanted to use me". As time passed, I found a way to escape where thousands others could not. And she's got a great sense of humour.

As do we. Murad is set to speak at the UN General Assembly today, with Clooney by her side.

Johnson, whose country helped organize a meeting of foreign ministers to address efforts to prosecute Islamic State militants, said he and Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari would urge the U.N.to take the lead on "the vital gathering and the preserving of evidence" of crimes committed by the group.
