Lions at Packers: 3 things we learned

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' offense raced out to a 31-3 lead against the Detroit Lions.

Rams 37, Buccaneers 32: Case Keenum threw for the Rams' first touchdown since relocating back to Los Angeles, and Todd Gurley rushed for two more scores in a victory over Tampa Bay.

"I don't care if we win or lose here because we got good food, drinks, and a lot of good fans so everything seems to be going good", said David Schultz, a Detroit Lions fan. He connected with Jones for a 23-yard completion on the first play from scrimmage in the second half to the Detroit 46.

Especially when injuries to several key players left the defense short-handed against the Lions. This will be something to keep an eye on in the second half.

So while the win of course matters, what ultimately will matter more is if this game signaled a big step toward McCarthy and Rodgers finding the identity that this offense had been lacking.

Green Bay Packers CB Darious Randall rips the ball away from Lions TE Eric Ebron for the interception of QB Matthew Stafford in the divisional Week 3 matchup. He carried the football 17 times for 103 yards, although he wasn't able to get into the end zone. "He had his foot out of bounds, he touched the ball, it's out of bounds against us". Yes, they were without the injured DeAndre Levy and Ziggy Ansah, but they knew that could be the case all week.

"It's early, it's different, but I think it's obvious we need it", McCarthy said Monday.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell yells to his players during the first half against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in Green Bay, Wis. They did not punt until the fourth quarter. "Yeah, I mean, it was an awesome first half".

The defensive issues were something that could have been expected, except defensive coordinator Teryl Austin had done a good job duct-taping a reasonable defense together the past two seasons.

If the defense stops an improved Matthew Stafford and a deep receiving corps: There will be evidence that this defense can be a top-flight unit, necessary for a Packers championship run. That average makes 2nd-place Seattle's 2.84 ypc allowed look trivial.

With just over three minutes left in regulation, Rodgers ran left for an 11-yard gain.

The Lions, mercifully, found an answer before the end of the half. It's not like we're going to invent the wheel or change the world or whatever, they made some plays and we didn't. Receiver Marvin Jones caught six passes for 205 yards with two touchdowns. He moved the ball but couldnt finish drives in the first half. By then, the Lions trailed by two touchdowns.

Granted, a win over the Lions on Sunday isn't the sort of thing that will silence debate, yet Rodgers shined with a four-touchdown game in Lambeau.

The Lions mounted a late comeback, but it wasn't enough to dig themselves out of that massive hole in a 34-27 loss in Green Bay. Stafford hit Marvin Jones or a 35-yard touchdown with 3:34 remaining to bring the Lions (1-2) within 34-27. Jones excels at making the hard catches along the sidelines.
