Wisconsin's Vince Biegel out for weeks after foot surgery

Vince Biegel had surgery Thursday night to insert a screw in the foot to stabilize the break.

The Badgers play No. 4 MI in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

UW defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox appears to have several options to compensate for the loss of Biegel.

Baun, a graduate of Brown Deer High School, has been a standout on special teams. He had 16 1/2 tackles for loss and 7 1/2 sacks in 2014. It marks the first time Wisconsin had defeated two AP top-10 teams since 1962, but the schedule over the next four games is perhaps even more daunting.

That would leave Leon Jacobs as the third inside linebacker. Bilge chose to undergo surgery now than risk missing a potential conference championship or bowl game later in the season.

Placekicker Rafael Gaglianone missed last week's game at Michigan State with a back injury.

Redshirt freshman Zack Baun is listed behind Biegel as the field-side outside linebacker on Wisconsin's depth chart and has recorded six tackles, two for loss. His pressure against LSU quarterback Brandon Harris resulted in the victory-clinching interception in the opener.

Wisconsin also could shift linebacker Jack Cichy from inside to outside and move backup Ryan Connelly into a starting inside linebacker role. "Vince has such a passion for football and loves playing the game".
