'Hawks penalized for violating offseason workout rules

The NFL announced Monday the Seahawks will be fined $400,000 and forfeit their first week of organized team activities (three practices) next year, as well as a fifth-round pick in the 2017 draft because they're repeat offenders.
The rule limits contact during offseason workouts and is meant to improve player safety by ensuring that no player is subjected to excessively powerful hits, as well as ensuring no team gains an unfair advantage over the rest of the league by starting contact drills early.
The NFL and NFLPA independently reviewed the Seahawks' June 6 on-field practice video and agreed the team violated the "no-live-contact" rule of the collective bargaining agreement.
Seahawks players will be paid for the canceled sessions in 2017. Should Seattle try to play with fire and further allow players to participate in contract drills during OTAs, the league will come down hard on the organization.
"I've got to do a better job", Carroll told reporters Monday.
The decision to discipline the team again came after the National Football League and the players union independently reviewed video of the June 6 practice and determined the club had violated the "no-live-contact" rule. General manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll are known for their ability to find diamonds in the rough on Day 3 of the draft.
The Seahawks were fined $300,000 just two years ago for violating the same rule. Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports should the Seahawks violate the rule again, they'll be significantly penalized, including the potential loss of preseason and regular season practices and higher-round draft picks.
Seattle made changes to how it went through organized team activities during the 2015 offseason, with the help of the NFL.
The fines will hurt, but losing even a late-round pick could be the most costly penalty for Seattle.
