Netflix engineers rescue Luke Cage after service falters

Marvel star Mike Colter might play bulletproof hero Luke Cage on screen but he says he is saddened by America's obsession with gun ownership.

Netflix acknowledged the outage on its Twitter feed, and vowed to get it up and running as soon as practicable.

Just when many subscribers may have thought they'd settle in to watch the new series "Marvel's Luke Cage", Netflix had issues.

The streaming service was down for more than two hours on Saturday, one day after the debut of a live-action series featuring the Marvel Comics hero.

If you have not yet started to binge-watcher Luke Cage this weekend, maybe the words of Cheo H. Coker on this first season will convince you: "I think people are incredibly surprised by the depth emotional series".

Netflix did not respond to requests for comment on the server outages.

The series was so popular, in fact, that last night saw Netflix go down across much of the United States and in parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland. In addition to Luke Cage, Netflix added several classic movies to its library on October 1, including Titanic and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

"Luke Cage" was heavily promoted going into its Friday premiere, and given the widespread success of "Jessica Jones" plus additional hype, there was certainly a feeling that it would be big.
