Pep Guardiola: Man City boss says Barcelona are a 'machine'

"Everyone though 'Yeah man City, they're going to walk away with the league.' They're not going to walk away with the league". Both teams are in Group C, with Barcelona sitting at the top of the table with six points in two matches, while City sit with four points.

Guardiola, who won the Champions League twice with Barca, said: "I have never thought about the next game thinking a draw would be a good result. We took a risk to start with three forward players.".

"The Toffees manager was well aware of City's tactical set up, stating that he had said to his staff that "...we need to be prepared for three defenders from Pep.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "We missed the opportunity to achieve three points but in the same way it was a hard game".

Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero had spot kicks saved as City drew 1-1 with Everton in the Premier League on Saturday in the latest stumble by Pep Guardiola's side.

Now Guardiola's tactical acumen is widely regarded as second to none, and intriguingly he switched to a 3-2-4-1 formation, playing three men in defense for the first time as City manager. It depends on the game.

"Of course, they are one of the best teams in the world so we need to compete".

Louis Enrique (Barcelona): "I've still not spoken with Pep but this was the flawless way to go into the match against City, winning against Depor".

Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he agrees with Everton boss Ronald Koeman's praise of Manchester City, after the two sides met on Saturday.

He said: "They are the best team I have played against in my managerial career".

Stoke won in the league for the first time this season as Wales worldwide Joe Allen made it four goals in his last three games by scoring twice in a 2-0 win at home over basement club Sunderland. That is the problem. "The quality of Barcelona is extremely high".

But it was the host's philosophy of trying to work the ball into the net which let them down, finding a resolute Everton defence that sat deep to snuff out wave after wave of opposition attack.

The Everton manager continued: "City played fantastic football, good movement, really high tempo and high pressing, but because of our defensive organisation, they could not create really open chances".
