ISIS thwarts rebellion plot in Mosul

Inspecting military units and speaking to security officials in the northern Iraqi province, Abadi said he was preparing for a military operation to take back more cities now controlled by ISIS.

The names of the plot leader are not being published to avoid increasing the safety risk for his family and those inside the city who spoke about the plot.

The area around Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq and one of the key bases of IS operations outside Syria, has been gradually under attack over the last few months.

The deadly drone explosion happened about 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of Mosul, ISIS' most important bastion in Iraq.

Military officials said that the Pentagon had dedicated significant resources to stopping drones but that few Iraqi and Kurdish units had been provided with the sophisticated devices that U.S. troops use to disarm them.

The battle may spark a humanitarian crisis, with the United Nations warning that up to one million people may be displaced by the fighting as winter sets in.

"There is a strong solidarity between peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army", he said. It did not go off, but later in the week an explosive drone deployed at a checkpoint in Iraq failed to cause any casualties, but did destroy a building.

The coup was foiled after a rebel was caught on his phone referring to a transfer of weapons.

Iraq is asking the Turkish government to remove several hundred of its troops from the Bashiqa camp where they are training peshmerga forces and Sunni tribal forces.

DJI, which holds about 60 percent to 70 percent of commercial drone market, said after the use the device by Isis in Iraq that people who carry out such acts should be severely punished.

IS issued an online statement claiming the bombing and confirming the latter account of the attack, but a witness at the scene said the bomber had targeted a funeral tent, entering and blowing himself up as lunch was being served. "This is a clear sign that the terrorist organization has started to lose support not only from the population, but even from its own members".

ISIS previously has used commerical, off-the-shelf drones for surveillance and to deliver ordnance, and now it is is using drones to deliver explosives, Colonel John Dorrian, the spokesman for US military operations in Iraq, told reporters on Wednesday.

"I announce that all preparations to retake Mosul have been completed. Those traitors are apostates and it is forbidden to bury them in Muslim cemeteries", said one resident whose relative was among those executed.

In recent months, ISIS militants in Mosul have increasingly released footage of executions of those accused of spying or working against the group.
