Paul McCartney got 'emotional' over Beatles film

The two remaining Beatles were in high spirits as they celebrated director Ron Howard's new documentary, which tells the story of the band's touring years through behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and previously unreleased music.

Liverpool Celebrities are due to line the red carpet this evening, as a new film documentary about the Beatles has its premiere at FACT.

Sir Paul said: "We were kind of quite intelligent guys, looking at the political scene and, coming from Liverpool, we played with black bands and black people in the audience, it didn't matter to us".

"And we actually forced them then, which is very early on in the '60s, to integrate".

Amongst Paul and Ringo were stars including Madonna, Stella McCartney and John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono who came together to celebrate director Ron Howard's highly-anticipated film. Frantically rushing through the quartet's prodigious output during these years, Eight Days a Week is best when it slows down, allowing a performance of, say, "I Feel Fine" to be heard and seen in full, rather than interrupting these soaring melodies so that Malcolm Gladwell can redundantly discuss "the emergence of teenage culture".

Their last official gig was at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966. We didn't enjoy the gig. "You can only do that for so long".

"I said that we are opening the movie, and Tulsa's audience would like to hear his thoughts, and I included an image of his granite medallion" with his name on it, Foxen said, referring to the theater's "Walk of Fame" markers on the sidewalk in front of the theater.

Ahead of the screening, McCartney said he took pleasure from watching the Beatles perform.

"So to see us performing as a band is a great thing, because without that, we couldn't have made the records".
