As a outcome of his father's action of removing him from the party chief post, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav stripped his uncle, Shivpal Singh Yadav, of three key ministerial portfolios late on Tuesday, signalling growing fissures within Uttar Pradesh's ruling Samajwadi Party ahead of next year's assembly elections.

Akhilesh was then removed as state party chief and replaced by uncle Shivpal Yadav.

"The one thing that Narendra Modi knows the best is how to pit one person against the other.Narendra Modi only makes one person fight against the other and this hampers the development of the country", Mr Gandhi said in his speech at the culmination of his road show in Uttar Pradesh".

BJP on Wednesday dubbed the wrangling within the ruling Yadav clan in Uttar Pradesh a "high-voltage family drama" to deflect the attention of the people and media from the Samajwadi Party government's "all-round failure".

Asked about his future course of action and whether he will resign from the State Cabinet, Shivpal said: "I will talk to Netaji (Mulayam).

We will take a decision only after speaking to Netaji (Mulayam Singh)", he said, adding in a confident manner, "Uttar Pradesh's people are with Netaji". Prajapati initially inducted as minister of state for irrigation in Akhilesh cabinet was later made the minister for mining, reportedly at the behest of the SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Interacting with reporters on the sidelines of an event at his official residence, Akhilesh said: "This is a tussle in the government, not the family". At his native village Saifai, he also said that "giving or taking portfolios was strictly the realm of the CM". Akhilesh displayed his first signs of assertion barely two months back when he shot down chacha Shivpal Yadav's plan for merger of mafia don turned politician Mukhtar Ansari's Qaumi Ekta Dal (QED) with the Samajwadi Party.

The crisis in the Samajwadi Party refused to die down as senior party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday told party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav that he was being painted as a villain despite following his orders.

"Aap kitna bhi kahein Akhilesh ne yeh kaha hai, main man-ne ko tayar nahi".

Sources from Raj Bhavan have confirmed that Governor Ram Naik has accepted Akhilesh's recommendations to sack the two ministers.

He also negated all rumors doing the round that he might be the reason for the rift between Akhilesh and Shivpal.

Earlier, the CM had removed Deepak Singhal, a known Shivpal associate, from the post of the state's Chief Secretary.

"Akhilesh Yadav is like a son to me and he did not call me an outsider", said Singh.
