Samsung reveals Note 7 exchange programme for United Kingdom and Ireland

The supersized smartphone received great reviews in the first few days but things haven't gone well for the company. The recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices has put them in a tight spot.

An Australian had a scary morning yesterday waking up to an exploding Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung Australia has taken a proactive and voluntarily step to recall 51,060 Galaxy Note 7 smartphones after reports of battery explosion emerged.

The recall resulted in a almost $7 billion loss for Samsung's share value this week.

The high-end gadget was launched just weeks ago, but users have complained that a battery fault has caused some phones to explode or catch fire while plugged in.

"(It) charred the hotel room bed sheet and the carpet when I whacked it down to the floor, burnt one of my fingers while doing that too". The Galaxy Note 7 was charging with its original charger.

The man says his Samsung Galaxy Note7 exploded in his hotel room in Perth, Australia.

The Australian airline Qantas told its customers on Thursday not to use the handsets or to charge them on its aircraft.

If you are a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 user residing in the United Kingdom you now have lots to cheer about as a fresh set of replacement Galaxy Note 7 handsets, which you can avail as replacement for your current devices, has arrived in the country. The official recall was last week, so if you purchased a Galaxy Note during its release, go for the replacement.

The possible ban comes as other countries such as the U.S. are mulling a similar measure after a few Note phones caught fire while charging. The FAA is reportedly working on guidance for airlines in the United States concerning the issue with the Galaxy Note 7 and fire risk.
