Trump Foundation Falls Under Investigation by New York Attorney General

Both Bondi and Trump have denied any wrongdoing, saying the donation did not lead to any favors. Charities are forbidden under USA tax law to make political donations and the foundation was fined $2,500. The ad shows Trump and Bondi engaging in an air kiss at a Trump rally.

Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr confirmed receipt of the letter Tuesday, but declined to comment on it.

Jason Miller, a senior communications advisor for the Trump campaign, accused the Democratic attorney general of trying to influence the political race. "He comes up to my office looking for campaign contributions", Trump said of Schneiderman.

Neither company was still offering seminars by the time Bondi took office in 2011, though dissatisfied former customers were still seeking promised refunds.

Bondi, who has endorsed Trump, has called the AP report misleading. The Trump Foundation paid $20,000 for the painting. "When I call, they kiss my ass".

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said on Tuesday he had opened an inquiry into the Donald J. Trump Foundation to ensure the Republican presidential nominee's charity was complying with state laws governing nonprofits.

"My interest in this issue really is in my capacity as regulator of non-profits in NY state", Attorney-General Eric Schneiderman told CNN on Tuesday.

"We've inquired into it and we've had correspondence with them", Mr Schneiderman said, adding "we have been looking into the Trump Foundation to make sure it's complying with the laws governing charities in New York". I didn't make a big deal out of it or hold a press conference.

Aides to Mr Trump have already admitted the donation was a mistake resulting from clerical errors, according to reports.

Despite the Trump campaign's claims that he's donated "tens of millions of dollars", the real estate tycoon still refuses to prove that he's personally given millions of dollars - or even thousands - to various charities over the past decade.

A Washington Post's examination into Donald Trump's charity revealed that almost all contributions made by the Donald J. Trump Foundation come from other charities.

Earlier this election, Trump skipped a Fox News debate and vowed to instead give $6 million to veterans' charities. He then makes donations under the Trump Foundation name without giving the original donors credit, the Post reported.

Trump went so far as filing an ethics complaint, but it was later thrown out by the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics, reported Newsday.

The Evans Foundation agreed to give money to the cause, and donations from them to the Donald J. Trump Foundation totaled $150,000 in 2009 and 2010.

Donald Trump also hosted a March 2014 fundraiser for Bondi on the lawn of his palatial Mar-a-Lago Club.
