SpaceX plans return to space by November

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket was supposed to launch its 29th mission in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday September 3, carrying the AMOS-6 telecom satellite.

SES's CCO Ferdinand Kayser, speaking at IBC, said that its planned re-use of a pre-flown 1st stage SpaceX rocket could still take place this year- and certainly this coming winter - provided a launch pad was ready on time. Before the Sept 1 accident, Falcon 9 rockets had flown 27 times successfully and failed once.

But returning to flight after just three months is "surprising because that's actually very quick", Smith said.

Owned by beleagured billionaire Elon Musk, the company could be hit with a $50 million dollar lawsuit from the telecommunications company whose satellite the rocket explosion destroyed. Space Exploration Technologies Corp.'s billionaire founder, Elon Musk, said last week that the incident was "the most hard and complex failure we have ever had in 14 years".

"Important to note that this happened during a routine filling operation", he said in a tweet. The engines were off and there was no source of heat around, which may have led to explosion.

The core investigation team consists of about 20 people, more than half of them representing federal agencies and industry. "Turning out to be the most hard and complex failure we have ever had in 14 years", Musk tweeted on Friday after a week of public silence.

Musk took to Twitter and said his company has already started an investigation.

SpaceX was attempting to catch up on launches following an accident in June 2015 that grounded the Falcon 9 rocket for six months. Musk said the explosion was "really a fast fire" and was unable to point to specific mechanical causes for the failure of the rocket.

Nothing's going to keep SpaceX down, not even an explosive mishap. SpaceX will have another flight later this month at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Aerospace analyst Bill Ostrove believes that it is unlikely for SpaceX to launch another mission in 2016, especially considering the fact that the cause of the explosion is not clear yet.

"Clearly this incident is a setback for SpaceX", said Dale Skran, the National Space Society's executive vice president.
