Making a Murderer Wins Four Out of Six Nonfiction Emmy Awards

FX picked up Best Animated Series for Archer and Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Animated Series for Inside Look: The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, bringing them to second place with 12 Emmys so far.

According to a report from Deadline Hollywood, the Netflix original documentary series Making a Murderer won four Emmys on Sunday night at the Creative Arts Emmys Ceremony.

Having seen numerous documentaries nominated for Emmys this year, I'm not surprised Making a Murderer was the big victor of the night on nonfiction side. The show follows Steven Avery, who served 18 years in prison wrongfully convicted of the sexual assault and attempted murder of Penny Beersten before he was exonerated by DNA evidence in 2007.

The show was filmed over 10 years and premiered with 10 episodes on Netflix last December.

Dean Strang, Steven Avery's former attorney, is unsure whether ruling that the then 16-year-old Brendan Dassey was coerced by detectives into confessing -- would even help his uncle Avery's case.

With just weeks to go before Dassey's release, the Wisconsin Attorney General's office has now made a decision to fight Judge Duffin's ruling, with hopes to block the 26-year-old from being freed. Avery's subsequent lawsuit was ostensibly on the brink of exposing corruption in local law enforcement when he found himself the primary suspect in a new case: The murder of a young photographer named Teresa Halbach.

Making a Murderer captivated audiences when it began streaming on Netflix over the holidays in late 2015. "It's a very trying time for all of the families involved". "We have always said that the show's best friend is the public record". The series is a ten-part documentary directed by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos. "Things are happening and we're following those events as they unfold". George Clooney's Smokehouse Pictures is producing the project and Sonar is financing it.
