Haryana rape: Do you eat cow meat?, rapists asks the gangrape victims

A Muslim woman in northern India has claimed that she and a 14-year-old cousin were gang-raped and two elderly relatives beaten to death after being accused of eating beef by Hindu thugs.

The accused also beat her uncle and aunt to death and injured four family members.

Mewat: Haryana police chief K P Singh has dismissed allegations of cow vigilantes being involved in the gang rape and double murder that shook Mewat on August 24 amid fresh allegations by one of the survivors that the attackers, who she claimed were cow vigilantes, had forced them to drink urine.

Nearly two weeks after two Indian women were gang-defiled in Mewat, Haryana state, one of them has alleged that the attackers asked her if she ate beef.

Although the alleged rape took place two weeks ago, news of the incident has only just come out.

The slaughter of cows is banned in several Indian states, including Haryana.

"They asked us if we eat beef".

However, they told the BBC there was no evidence to suggest it was caused by a row over cows. People [Hindus and Muslims] have always lived in peace in this area.

Muslim community leader, Ramzan Chaudhary, said people are shocked because such a horrific attack has never happened in Mewat before, the BBC had reported.

However the district has seen communal riots in the past.

"We have never had any religious tensions here since independence".

"This is not about Hindus or Muslims".

India amended its laws to broaden the definition of rape to include any form of penetration.
