Bethesda Reveals Sony Won't Allow Fallout 4 Mods on PS4

"Fallout 4" videogame developer Bethesda regretfully announced on its website Sony's final verdict about mod support for the PS4 - a sad, resounding "no". This is all thanks to a policy from Sony.

"We invested considerable time and effort to make mods possible on Playstation 4".

It looks like Bethesda still wants to go through with their plan to roll out the long awaited mod support for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) version of "Fallout 4".

Bethesda states that it will provide an update should the situation change.

This is disappointing news for Fallout 4 fans, especially since the PC and Xbox One versions of Fallout 4 both have mod support and the PS4 version was supposed to be next in line. At that time, Bethesda promised and delivered Xbox One mod support in May 2016, saying PlayStation 4 mod support would arrive in June 2016. So much so that many a PC gamer prefers playing these games on PC for mod support alone.

More importantly, however, is that it's a disappointment to the small community of Fallout 4 and expected Skyrim players on PS4 that would have used and created mods in the first place.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition will not be receiving mods on PlayStation 4.

The only way to know how all of this works out is if you happen to be a Sony employee. They later struggled with the PS4's proprietary sound file format, and a Sony-imposed mod storage limit of 900 MB (compared to a full 2 GB on the Xbox One).

Sony has not released a statement concerning the matter yet, but this writer is attempting to contact them concerning their side of the story with the lack of official mod support. Well, they won't. It seems Sony simply won't approve of the program as Bethesda has proposed it. We've pinged Sony to get their perspective on things.

"After months of discussion with Sony", Bethesda has thrown up their proverbial hands in frustration.
