GOP-led panel to question officials on FBI probe of Clinton

The session late Monday before the GOP-led House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is expected to focus on portions of the file from the FBI's yearlong probe into whether then-Secretary of State Clinton mishandled classified information that flowed through a private email server located in the basement of her NY home.

FBI Director James Comey testified before HOGR on July 7, two days after announcing he would not recommend pursuing criminal charges against Clinton.

The Utah Republican said it is embarrassing that only members of certain House committees can view sensitive material from the investigative file, and that he doesn't understand why personal information had been redacted from the packet turned over to lawmakers last month.

The FBI provided the records to Congress last month and warned lawmakers the documents are not to be made public.

"The problem is the second set had 27 emails more than the other one, which we were grateful for ... only to have the FBI try to come back and recover those", Chaffetz said in a Monday hearing with intelligence community officials over classifications and redactions from the FBI investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server at the Department of State.

During an evening congressional hearing, House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz (CHAY'-fits) served a top FBI official with a subpoena for the investigation's full case file.

Following the decision, the agency sent an explanatory letter to the House Oversight Committee along with materials from the investigation.

The committee later voted to hold the remainder of the hearing in closed session.

The documents from the FBI's file are being stored in a secure unit known by USA intelligence officials as a sensitive compartmented information facility, or SCIF. He issued the subpoena to Jason Herring, the acting assistant director for congressional affairs.

Cummings criticized Chaffetz for holding any portion of the hearing in open session. "They are demanding that he bring criminal charges against Secretary Clinton despite the fact that the evidence is simply not there, and that is something nobody with any integrity would ever do". He said it was "fundamentally unfair" to the witnesses and risked the inadvertent release of classified material.
