Israel plans new homes in West Bank settlements

Spokesperson for the IDF Avichai Adraee said in a statement in Arabic that Israeli forces, police and civil administration authorities closed al-Sanabel upon a military order that claimed that the radio station broadcasts programs inciting against Israel.

The United States on Wednesday voiced concern about a significant acceleration of Israeli settlement activity in Palestinian territories and said a policy of retroactively approving unauthorized settlements allow the Israeli government to expand such activity in a "potentially unlimited way".

The White House said the move poses a "serious and growing threat" to the creation of an independent Palestinian state. He says settlements and other core issues at the heart of the conflict, like security arrangements, should be resolved in negotiations. "What is needed is a practical step that forces the Israeli government to freeze its settlement activities that threaten to destroy regional and worldwide efforts to resume the peace process". In a position that has wide worldwide backing, Palestinians want the territory for their future state, along with the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem as their capital.

Ghassan Daghlas, a PA official in charge of monitoring settlements, clarified to The Jerusalem Post that the U.S. could take a variety of steps to make Israel freeze settlement activity.

According to the United Nations envoy, Israel has advanced plans for more than 1,000 housing units in east Jerusalem and 735 units in the West Bank since July 1.

The Jewish settlements which have been expanding following the Six-Day War of 1967, are illegal under worldwide law.

Peace efforts have been at a complete standstill since a US-led initiative collapsed in April 2014.

The shrine is under Palestinian control and off-limits to Israelis except on escorted trips organized by the army.

France has also been working on its own peace initiative and hopes to convene an global conference before the end of the year.

Israeli forces detained at least 10 Palestinians, including a journalist, in Wednesday night raids across the occupied West Bank, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.

Activist Bashar al-Qaryout, from the local anti-settlement committee, sounded the alarm over a projected Israeli settlement scheme to dismember northern West Bank towns and villages.
