Nascar eSports Future of Racing?

Nascar eSports Future of Racing?

We are all gripped by Formula 1 and NASCAR, but could the future of the two, particularly the latter, be in a digital capacity? Since we were children we’ve all loved visiting arcades and getting behind the digital wheel, right? However, with games improving, and the competitiveness being added, people have longed for a bigger role in digital racing. In 2010 the NASCAR Peak Antifreeze Series was introduced. Six years later it’s alive and well, being broadcast live on television, with a $10,500 prize on offer.

This eSport is well and truly one that can change your life, albeit from behind a controller and screen.

50 stock car drivers compete in the iRacing simulation, and it has become more than life, a career, for some.

The reality of the NASCAR Sprint Cup, with all the rules, is intact, but in the simulation form. It takes 34 weeks, with 16 races, all of which a winner is crowned from. This is alarmingly similar to the real NASCAR schedule, right? Both are popular on betway, but is there a right to believe the real thing is better?

Is it as serious?

To some it’s laughable, but to others, it’s everything. Its growth suggests it has more than a place in the world of sport. The digital tracks are the same as real-life ones, which adds to the appeal.

It does take skill, however, with one needing to win via a point system over the season-long competition.

There’s an iRacing licence program. One cannot simply compete without earning the right to.

Still unsure? The series has been shown online since 2010, and the demand to watch it shows the growth is likely to continue.

Every sport has that defining star, or that defining moment. Take Conor McGregor and Jon ‘Bones’ Jones for UFC. They’ve put the once unpopular MMA on the map. Michael Jordan helped the NBA to be embraced across the entire world. Just like modern stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have made soccer all the more popular in the United States of America.

Can this happen with eSports, or is it a non-starter? Will eSports ever be accepted by all involved? If this development continues, then maybe so. Why not! We run everything else through a digital capacity, so it’s not unthinkable.

In 5-10 years we will know how far eSports can go. Its growth has already exceeded what the world expected, and we’re not willing to rule it out just yet.
