'Game of Thrones' season 6: Ian McShane reveals character spoilers

It's a big, juicy part for McShane, but before he gets there he'll play a much smaller role in Season 6 of Game of Thrones. Vulture reports that during an interview with BBC Breakfast this morning, the actor said he can't talk about the show and then proceeded to give some major hints that double as massive spoilers! McShane revealed that (spoiler alert!) his character is an "ex-warrior who has become a peacenik" and that he leads a peaceful group that is "sort of like a cult".

The Hound's probable return is huge news for fans who believe in an inevitable final battle between the Clegane brothers - one of whom is now a repentant former soldier who is mute by choice while the other is a bloodthirsty former human who is mute by Frankenstein-like design. Now a no-nonsense rural priest who ministers to the poor of the countryside. In the books, Brienne goes to the Quiet Isle to look for Sansa and meets up with the Elder Brother.

While it's tempting to jump to Jon Snow, it's far more likely that McShane's character will bring the once-cantankerous Hound back as a kinder, gentler, murderous giant. We don't know. But when you consider all this along with the fact that McCann, who plays The Hound on Game of Thrones, has been seen on the set, and the likelihood that Ian McShane's character will bring The Hound back to life is even greater. But the new information about his still-unnamed character could offer fans a clue about both his role and that of his much-loved friend. Though he initially wouldn't say whether the character was he or she after host Sarah Brett said it could only be the Hound or Jon Snow, McShane relents and says, "I think you might guess which one it is". "I'll leave it at that".
