Bill Cosby's Wife, Camille, Deposed In Defamation Lawsuit

Hotel staff cordoned off the area of the hotel near the conference room where she was questioned, and later pulled heavy black draperies across the hallway so no one could see the door to the room, the Associated Press reported.

Bill Cosby's wife, an enigmatic figure who has publicly stood by her husband despite the dozens of sexual assault allegations against him, was slated to answer questions under oath Monday in a defamation lawsuit filed against him by seven accusers.

Camille Cosby is scheduled to be questioned by a lawyer for the women Monday at the Springfield Marriott.

The closed-door session was conducted under tight scrutiny at a MA hotel for almost seven hours, but by the day's end Cosby had answered questions for just 2.5 hours. The emergency motion was meant to delay the deposition while she appealed the magistrate's decision.

The company said it expects most stores to continue in operation throughout the chapter 11 process. Macy's Inc. has opened Macy's Backstage, in order to go head to head with discount retailer T.J.

In December 2014, as the onslaught of allegations built up, Camille leapt to defend her "wonderful husband" and criticized the media coverage.

The Cosby accusers whose lawsuit led Camille Cosby to give a deposition Monday have tried again to obtain the legal case file from a Pennsylvania accuser's 2005 civil lawsuit. They attempted to quash the deposition. She was later joined by six other women who say Cosby sexually assaulted or abused them and defamed them by calling them liars.

The Cosbys have a home in Shelburne Falls, about an hour's drive from Springfield, where the lawsuit was filed.

The plaintiffs' attorney, Joseph Cammarata, said proceedings were delayed because Cosby's lawyers objected to questions and invoked spousal privilege over a dozen times.

"I expect to ask her about her relationship with Mr. Cosby, her relationship to his personal interests, his business interests and matters that are relevant to the issues in the case", Cammarata said.

Cosby, 78, who has denied all the allegations against him, was not present at the deposition.

Lawyers for Cosby and his wife have argued that she does not have any information on the accuracy of the women's claims and that her conversations with him are confidential under the state marital disqualification rule. They have five children, one of them deceased. He has pleaded not guilty. Cosby is due for a preliminary hearing in the case on March 8. This month, a judge denied a motion by Cosby's lawyers to dismiss the charges.
