South Sudan finally joins East African Community

The summit chaired by president of Tanzania John Magufuli was also attended by presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Rwanda's Paul Kagame.

Burundi is facing a political crisis that broke out in April 2015 following the announcement by Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza that he would be seeking a third term.

According to the Head of Communications at the East African Community Secretariat, Mr Richard Owora Othieno, the five East African presidents are converging here for their 17th Ordinary East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit.

The Summit is also expected to deliberate on a report by the Council on the verification exercise for the admission of the Republic of Somalia into the EAC.

The new strategy mulled by the EAC Heads of State might lead to automobile manufacturers specialising in such popular and fast selling brands as Toyota, Nissan, Volkswagen and Yutong in Japan, China, and Europe to starting to make plans to build assembling plants in East Africa.

The summit is being held under the theme; EAC: Advancing market-driven integration. The road is under EAC development plans, being implemented by EAC member states.
