Toronto's Marco Estrada, however, would go the distance with eight innings and two earned runs for a quality start in the hard-luck loss.

The Blue Jays wasted some early scoring chances - they had six runners in the first three innings - against Kluber and their frustration only grew as the night went on.

In the sixth, Lindor helped accomplish that by taking an 0-2, 77 miles per hour Estrada changeup over the right-center-field wall, driving in Jason Kipnis, who had walked immediately beforehand. None of the three would lead to a run; Santana's bunt was negated when Jason Kipnis grounded into a double play, and following both Crisp bunts the next two batters (Tyler Naquin and Roberto Perez) would make outs to end the inning.

"Lindor's got a nice swing path and he just caught it nicely", catcher Russell Martin said.

Kluber got the first out in the seventh before being replaced by Andrew Miller. "What they're able to do with Miller, have him come in and pitch multiple innings, he's obviously a tough at-bat".

Estrada allowed six hits in Toronto's first complete game all year, but made one costly mistake. "I just didn't execute it". Kluber wasn't ready until Game 2 of the American League Division Series last week after suffering a pulled quad on September 26.

Estrada lacks that resume, and didn't even assert himself as a major-league starter until he was 32 years old, but in two post-seasons he has proven to be a premier big-game starter. Lonnie Chisenhall put up a great 3-for-3 outing but couldn't get any results from his flawless line. He gave up just four singles and had Cleveland hitters off-balance with an outstanding fastball-changeup combination.

On the plus side for the Jays, the pitching edge on paper goes to Toronto for the next three starts with J.A. Happ, Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez on deck.

The Blue Jays and Indians drew a sellout crowd of 37,727 to Progressive Field on Friday night.

At the end of the day, however, the Blue Jays' offense was stifled by an airtight Indians' defense. First pitch is 4:05pm.

This was the flawless setup for Cleveland, as Kluber was able to work deep in the game, and Lindor's blast allowed manager Terry Francona to use the bullpen exactly how he wanted.

But as you undoubtedly know already, the Indians scored the only two runs of the game because that one walk and one extra-base hit happened back-to-back in the sixth inning. Cleveland's depleted rotation means that there is little chance that the next three games will be almost so clean, not with the homer-prone Josh Tomlin starting Game 2, the drone-dinged Bauer for Game 3 and, for Game 4-who knows?-probably Mike Clevinger. The last four times they dropped the opening game they went on to win only once -beating the A's in 1992 after losing 4-3 at home in Game 1. "I thought he missed a few to Kipnis when I walked him". You can tell yourself that this was the best pitching Cleveland can muster, and you'd be right. However, a freakish injury has pushed him back until Game 3 on Monday.

What looked like an even match-up on paper looked anything but that on the field as the Indians trounced the Blue Jays 2-0 to take their first win of the Championship Series.

These teams will turn around right away to play Game 2 at 4:00 p.m ET on Saturday afternoon. "I felt a sharp pain in my knee".

The Indians were in a position to win this game because Corey Kluber wriggled out of many earlier rallies.

Travis, Toronto's second baseman, left the game in the fifth inning after apparently re-injuring his right knee.
