Samsung: Replacement Galaxy Note 7s coming Wednesday

Samsung has made clear that any Galaxy Note 7 sold before September 15th, 2016, inside the United States, is subject to the recall.

The company also said about 25 percent of Note 7 owners in the U.S. have exchanged their devices, up from 13 percent last week when Samsung started making replacements available.

Some of our readers were pinged by Best Buy over the weekend with a note about picking up their replacement phone, so we know that some exchange devices are and have been available.

Also part of today's Samsung Pay update is a cloud restore feature that'll restore your membership cards, gift cards, and Samsung Reward cards when you sign in to Samsung Pay. They also say that this battery cell issue causing the recall does not apply to phones sold outside the US, nor any device sold after September 15th, 2016.

National flag carrier, RwandAir, has banned Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobile phones cargo on its flights. If only 25% of Note 7 owners have attempted to exchange, we have a lot of bad Notes just waiting to do damage.

Consumers can either replace the phone or get a refund, and Samsung also released a stopgap software update that limits the phone's battery to 60 percent capacity, in a bid to prevent them from overheating. "New devices will be in stores no later than tomorrow and we will continue to take the necessary actions to ensure users are powering down and immediately exchanging recalled devices".

RwandAir says the move is a safety measure after Samsung recalled the phone last week after reports emerged of the device exploding during or after charging.

The SAFO notes that the hazardous material regulations do not preclude an airline from proactively placing its own restrictions on carrying or using specific lithium battery products on board aircraft, prior to an official government recall or advisory.
