Scholes: Pogba needs Modric or Kroos (or Carrick…)

Just 24 hours after Manchester United legend Roy Keane said he preferred Pep Guardiola to current Red Devils boss José Mourinho, another United legend, Paul Scholes, on Thursday criticised the clubs world-record new signing, Paul Pogba.

The former United number 8 also apparently suggested that it could be a case of Pogba trying to hard to justify his price tag.

"He's got great ability to run at a player".

Manchester United might have splashed the cash last summer in the transfer window.

Pogba's form tallies with United's own drop-off after their winning start to life under Mourinho came to a shuddering halt. "I think Mourinho will find the right partners for him", Scholes said on BT Sport.

"I think Marcus is the best one to play in that position, especially at Watford".

"If he just plays one-two touch, sticks the ball into Zlatan and runs, nobody can live with that".

They should remember that the Frenchman is only 23, and he is already one of the best midfielders in the world, and he will only improve at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. "He's got so much pace, so much power".

Modric, who can help "control where Paul goes and can control a game of football" similar to the way Andrea Pirlo did at Juventus.

Of the present squad, Scholes believes 34-year-old Michael Carrick - who has not played since the Community Shield on 7 August - is the best fit. Schneiderlin, especially, that was his job tonight.

"In that position it is your duty to get the team to play football, you go and get the ball, you pass it forward, you link the team together".

"I know he's happy with his four players [signed in the transfer window] but I still think they need that type of player".

There's no doubting the quality the Frenchman possesses, and part of me thinks that's the reason why rival fans are loving his slow start- they know what he's capable of.

Make no doubt about it, Paul Pogba, the world's most expensive player, has that special something that sets him apart from other players.
