The AL Central-leading Indians are trying to go for the knockout punch of the Tigers in this series on Saturday. Right-hander Danny Salazar is expected to miss the rest of the season with a strained forearm.

Cleveland Indians right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco left today's game after throwing two pitches against the Detroit Tigers. Fulmer lost his previous three starts and has one win over his last 10 turns despite permitting three runs or fewer on eight occasions.

Kluber improved to 3-0 in three starts this season against Detroit. That said, Norris has been very consistent during the last month, going 5-6.1 innings in each of his last six starts, with two or three runs allowed.

As for Verlander, the Indians have been a career nemesis for him.

Tigers: RHP Justin Verlander is 0-3 with a 9.18 ERA in three starts against Cleveland this season.

The Indians have an opportunity to throw a knockout punch this weekend at Progressive Field. The 21 losses are by far the most Verlander has against any other major league opponent. They moved to the East Division in 1994 and trailed Montreal by six games when the strike stopped the season in August.

This was the first of seven games between the rivals over the next two weeks and the Indians, who have led the division since June 4, made sure the Tigers didnt get any closer or gain any momentum. Manager Terry Francona and a team trainer immediately went to the mound. This weekend's series includes nothing but stellar pitching from both squads and should provide for some pretty low scoring games.
