Hawkeyes get ready to host FCS power North Dakota State
To me, their style of football reminds me of the last two teams we played at the end of the season a year ago, Michigan State, Stanford.
North Dakota State was able to control the clock keeping Iowa's potent offense off the field.
"They came here to win the game", Ferentz said.
It's a six-figure windfall for the FCS schools, who don't have the big TV contracts and bowl payouts that Football Bowl Subdivision schools get.
If the first few weeks of this season were any indication, it would be foolish for the selection committee or any Power 5 opponent to disregard a win over a team in the FCS top 25.
North Dakota State's dominance of college football at all levels continued Saturday with the Bison upsetting No. 13 Iowa 23-21 thanks to Cam Pedersen's 37-yard field goal as time expired. They've won five straight titles, they've beaten Iowa's in-state rival already and they have shown the ability to survive. This will be a great test for Kirk Ferentz's Hawkeyes.
A five-time national champion travels to take on a ranked opponent this weekend and it's not Nick Saban leading Alabama into Oxford, Mississippi, to play the Ole Miss Rebels.
Quarterback C.J. Beathard has won all nine of his starts in Kinnick Stadium, but Beathard and the Hawkeyes know better than to underestimate the invading Bison.
Delany's theory that FCS teams can make a schedule look weak can sometimes be right. In 2013, the Bison turned Kansas State into a victim. Welsh left last week's game against Iowa State with an ankle injury, but is expected back, while a knee injury kept Daniels off the field against the Cyclones.
The school sold out its 4,000-seat allotment quickly and fans purchased thousands of single-game tickets when they became available.
-Some of us questioned North Dakota State's decision to go for a two-point conversion (which failed) after scoring a touchdown with 3:41 remaining.
NDSU pulled within a point on a seven-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Easton Stick to Chase Morlock.
Another random note from this game: Connor Wentz - the younger brother of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz - has a 23-yard catch for the Bison already against the Hawkeyes. Stick is also a real threat to tuck the ball down and run, and has over 100 yards and a rushing touchdown so far this year. They'll look to get back to their old form against the Hawkeyes in Week 3.
