NASA, Soyuz MS-02 Postpone ISS Crew Launch Due to 'Technical Reason'

Sputnik reported that a space industry source told the Russian news site RIA Novosti that the delay was due to a short circuit found during the testing and that the launch would likely not occur before October.

"(Russian space agency) Roscosmos has chose to move the launch of Soyuz MS-02 ship planned for September 23 due to technical reasons after holding tests on the Baikonur cosmodrome", the official agency announced in a Saturday statement. This was after the agency cited technical reason with regard to Soyuz MS-02, but no further elaborations were given.

NASA managers are awaiting details from Russian Federation on what is needed to fix the Soyuz MS-02 spacecraft and prepare it for launch.

Three crew members headed to the International Space Station are scheduled to launch on Friday, Sept. 23. MISSion with launch planned on 23rd September 2016 from Launch Pad 31 at Baikonur Cosmodrome has not new launch date at the moment. The delay has garnered the attention of the scientific community.

Soyuz MS-02 commander Sergey Ryzhikov, flight engineer Andrey Borisenko and NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough had been scheduled for launch from Baikonur on September 23. Cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin, Oleg Skripochka and astronaut Jeffrey Williams were aboard the said rocket that landed in Kazakhstan.

The Soyuz MS spacecraft is due to take two Russian cosmonauts and one U.S. astronaut to the International Space Station (ISS) for the Expedition 49 mission.
