Facebook Reactions Get a New Look for Star Trek's 50th Anniversary

When Star Trek first began beaming to television sets across the country in 1966, there was of course no way to watch clips on YouTube, live tweet episodes or "like" the show on Facebook. To commemorate the occasion, Facebook has chose to come up with custom reactions as a tribute. In 2009, J.J. Abrams rebooted the franchise; the third film in that new series, "Star Trek Beyond", was released this year.

You may also have noticed a personalized greeting at the top of your News Feed if you've liked or interacted with Star Trek or related sci-fi content on the social networking platform, and there's also a special custom profile frame you can apply to your primary display pic.

As demonstrated in the picture below, the classic "like" button is still there, but available for a limited time are updates that include the Vulcan salute for "love", Kirk for "haha", Spock for "wow", Geordi for "sad", and those feisty Klingons for "angry". Spock's face is used for "Wow", which seems odd considering that would be the last reaction Spock would ever have.

Facebook has rolled out a new suite of "like" buttons to mark the 50th anniversary of the first Star Trek episode, TechCrunch reports.

Starting with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture, "in 1979, the franchise has now spanned almost four decades and a total of 13 films and multiple television versions, including "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Voyager".

The customized reactions will be available for a limited time in the US and Canada, according to Shepard. "'Star Trek' preferred to explore moral questions in a futuristic setting".

In fact, "Star Trek" inspired three tattoos, including the USS Enterprise on her back as well as the United Federation of Planets symbol with her name written in Klingon running through it.
