The San Francisco Chronicle (http://sfg.ly/1o8oXdp ) says the report, released Thursday, found that Mario Woods had wounds in his head, back, abdomen, buttocks, legs and hands although multiple wounds might be from the same bullet.
The medical examiner's report includes toxicology findings indicating methamphetamine, marijuana and traces of other drugs in the 26-year-old's blood. "Police initially alleged that Woods lunged at them with a 4.5" knife, a fact which Woods' family's attorney says is disproved by cell phone video of the incident.
The shooting was captured on video and circulated widely online, igniting ongoing protests over police tactics.
Several San Francisco supervisors calling for an independent Federal investigation into the department's policies and an apology to the Woods family. The report indicates that five projectiles, two copper jackets and numerous fragments were recovered during the autopsy, and that 27 bullet casings were found at the scene.
Down Syndrome student wins game with last minute three-pointer
Robert is also a member of FRA's Heart to Heart program that encourages students with Down syndrome to integrate into the classrooms and other school activities, WTVF noted.
In 16 of the wounds, the trajectory of the bullet as it struck Woods was described as "back to front", though the report does not provide a sequence for the shots, and it's not clear how many of them were fired from behind. He can be seen motioning toward the officers, staggering, and then trying to walk away along a wall as one of the officers moved into his path. After shooting bean bags and pepper spray at the young man - methods they say didn't stop Woods - police used firearms "fearing serious injury or death".
In light of the lawsuit filed by Woods' family, the City has filed a response detailing police actions that the city alleges were "well within the settled parameters regarding the use of lethal force by police officers".
Chief Greg Suhr says he won't resign as a result of the shooting and Mayor Ed Lee says he won't fire him.
"It's certainly consistent with officers unloading a weapon against a person who was not threatening them", Burris said.
Zika Has Brazil's President, Central Banker Hunting Mosquitoes
Brazil's president said the Zika virus outbreak will not compromise the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . Local media reported what they said was the first abortion in the country because of Zika last week.
Burris said the issue was "if the officers had a legitimate reason to shoot him, regardless of his level of intoxication". "Even not following commands by the police doesn't justify using deadly force in this case".
The San Francisco police released a statement to KGO-TV contending that the autopsy fit with their version of events.
In a statement responding to the autopsy report Thursday, police acknowledged that the shooting had shaken many residents' trust in the department.
"It is hard for anyone to watch videos of the shooting". "Similarly it is equally as hard to read the medical examiner's report". Republication, retransmission or reuse without the express written consent of Bay City News, Inc.is prohibited.
