Trump Joins Cruz in Opposing US Transfer of Internet Domain Body

Hillary Clintons Democrats are refusing to protect the American people by not protecting the Internet.

"Trump opposes President Obama's plan to surrender American internet control to foreign powers", reads a press release put out by the Trump campaign on Wednesday, as senators attempt to reach reasonable compromise over funding the U.S. government past October 1.

"The U.S. should not turn control of the Internet over to the United Nations and the worldwide community", Miller said in the statement. "President Obama intends to do so on his own authority - just 10 days from now, on October 1st, unless Congress acts quickly to stop him", Trump said in a statement Wednesday.

In an unprompted statement Wednesday, Trump said he was "committed to preserving internet freedom for the American people and citizens all over the world".

"Internet freedom is now at risk with the president's intent to cede control to global interests, including countries like China and Russian Federation, which have a long track record of trying to impose online censorship".

Unless Congress acts now, Internet freedom will be permanently lost, Miller ominously added. Cruz pushed to add language to a must-pass spending bill that would force the Obama administration to delay or head off the move, but the effort appeared headed for failure Thursday. Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, as well as four House and Senate Republicans are against the transition. The U.S. government's role has diminished as the behind-the-scenes, technical administration has increasingly been performed by a California-based nonprofit organization that coordinates with private experts around the world.

Since its creation, ICANN has quietly administered the internet's address system without significant controversy. Ted Cruz (R-TX), the same senator who led a government shut down in 2013, has been leading the fight to stop it. That transition has been long planned and it is an attempt to move the control of one of the central parts of the internet into the global community.

"The Internet is defined by its inclusivity and openness", the letter says.

Just when you thought discussion over the transition of the internet's technical functions couldn't get any more ridiculous, here comes Donald Trump. Unless Congress blocks the transition, it's expected to go forward. He added that Congressional action to delay the change in oversight would simply give U.S. allies an incentive to back United Nations control.

President Obama "threw the Internet to the wolves, and they-Russia, China, Iran, and others-are ready to devour it", the GOP claims.

Trump and Cruz, along with many others in and out of government, share serious concerns about the risk of online censorship given the totalitarian regimes which figure prominently among United Nations member states. "The actual flow of traffic, and therefore speech, is up to individual network and platform operators".

Cruz made his feelings clear at the Republican National Convention when he told supporters that rather than vote for Trump - the party's nominee - people should vote their conscience.

"We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that Internet up in some ways".
