Labour MPs' fury over Corbyn campaign's 'ridiculous' hit list

Deputy party leader Tom Watson had been picked out for calling the grassroots pro-Corbyn campaign Momentum a "rabble". "As Jeremy has said, it is imperative that we now do all we can to unify our party".

Jeremy Corbyn and Owen Smith will face each other in the final Labour leadership hustings live on Sky News tonight.

"There was information put out there about statements that colleagues made on the record", he said.

Asked whether he meant to sue Corbyn, he replied: "Yes, and it would be the leader, not the party, because this has been issued apparently by someone in his campaign team".

"We've apologised - it was just inappropriate", McDonnell said.

Bermondsey MP Neil Coyle has gone further, announcing he is looking to take legal action against Corbyn.

"It's part of a culture of bullying and intimidation that says to Labour MPs and Labour members that they have to shut up and get in line or get out".

Last month Mr Barwell, who became Minister for Housing and Planning and Minister for London after Theresa May took control of Downing Street, said his future as an MP was "beyond my control" in respect of the boundary review.

Loach is due to speak at the pro-Corbyn Momentum conference in Liverpool next weekend - being held alongside the Labour Party's annual gathering. That number, the Welsh MP insisted, should be "tattooed" on the leader's head.

Mr Smith, who is embarking on a whistle-stop tour across England, Scotland and Wales, will warn that his opponent's policies will jeopardise jobs in energy, defence and manufacturing through opposition to Trident renewal, nuclear power, the pharmaceutical sector and the oil and gas industry.

Mr Smith served in Mr Corbyn's shadow cabinet but later resigned from the post of shadow work and pensions secretary. He noted how the party leader had not mentioned Brexit at Westminster in the last three weeks.
