Ivanka Trump cuts off Cosmo interview after tough questioning

In a speech on child care Tuesday, Trump had unveiled a new family leave policy that would require employers to start offering six weeks of paid leave to mothers who are not already offered maternity leave.

Trump also announced that his plan would rewrite the tax code to allow working parents to deduct from their income taxes child-care expenses for up to four children and elderly dependents.

During the interview, Trump told the Cosmopolitan reporter she wondered how "useful" it was to continue the interview when things veered off course.

You know, as much as I'd like to think Ivanka was thrown into this politcal mess out of lack of choice, I'm starting to believe more and more that she truly believes in everything her father says.

Then, Gupta asked why the policy did not cover paternity leave for gay men: "Well, what about gay couples, where both partners are men?".

But as a tax deduction, rather than a tax credit, critics say the plan would primarily help more affluent households. "The plan, right now, is focusing on mothers, whether they be in same-sex marriages or not".

"I think what I was - there's plenty of time for you to editorialize around this, but I think he put forth a really incredible plan that has pushed the boundaries of what anyone else is talking about", Ivanka said.

"The Trump Organization is proud of the family friendly environment it fosters throughout its portfolio", she said to the Huffington Post.

To which Ivanka Trump responded: "Well, those are your words, not mine".

Just a few questions later she abruptly cut the interview short, adding: "I'm going to jump off, I have to run. She has been working so very hard", Trump said in his speech.

Hillary Clinton has three different pages on her website that describe her plans for paid family leave and childcare. "Keep the focus where it belongs-advocating change". After taking several days off from directly attacking Clinton's health following her diagnosis of pneumonia over the weekend, Trump appeared to raise questions about her health at a rally Wednesday night in Ohio. But as his daughter Ivanka, who was reportedly deeply involved in designing the plans, made the TV rounds to promote the plan, she wove in some lies about Trump's opponent. "The policies and practices allowing employees to enjoy a healthy work-life balance vary from property to property".

Ivanka also noted that her own business is part of only 10 percent of American companies that offer eight- weeks paid leave for parents. Some employers offer paid maternity leave, most don't.

On Wednesday, Cosmopolitan released an interview with Ivanka Trump about the child care plan she strongly supports and helped create.
