Kate Upton: Dolphins' national anthem protest 'a disgrace'

Miami Dolphins running back Arian Foster is the latest NFL player to kneel during the National Anthem.

Upton, who is engaged to Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, specifically condemned the players' actions as "more horrific" because they occurred on the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The four players stood while President Barack Obama's message played regarding the 15th anniversary of 9/11 before taking a knee. "I love my country".

"The one thing that they asked [was for] their coaches to give them their privacy", Gase said after Friday's practice.

Earlier Sunday, the Dolphins organization released a statement in which it said, "We encourage all members of our organization to stand at attention during the national anthem out of respect and appreciation for the freedoms we are afforded as Americans". All four stood at the conclusion of the anthem.

"It's our job as professional athletes to make a positive impact on our communities and to be proactive when change is needed", the Chiefs players said in a statement released by the team.

On Sunday, as part of the NFL's Kickoff Weekend to the 2016 season, players did everything from interlocking their arms during the national anthem to raising their fists during and after the song.

"They say it's not the time to do this".

National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell weighed in on Kaepernick's protest last week as well, saying, "I don't necessarily agree with what he's doing". On the opposite end, there will be many others who continue to talk about the need for more demonstrations, hoping to get social justice in this country. "But just understand that we're doing what we think is right".

In the final game of the night, New England Patriots pair Martellus Bennett and Devin McCourty raised their fists at the end of the national anthem. The players were following the lead of 49ers player Colin Kaepernick, whose protest during an August 26 game sparked a litany of bad opinions and faux outrage.
