Google starts big advertising push round new Pixel phone

As Google tries to get its footing in the increasingly competitive United States smartphone market, it may have made some deals with the devil that ruin the user experience for many people who end up buying the phones. The company will be in charge of delivering the monthly Android security updates directly to its smartphones, be they Verizon versions or unlocked models. Google didn't confirm when it will start to rollout to customers' smartphones, or which will get the update first.

Google Pixel (5-inch) and Pixel XL (5.5-inch ) are meant to be the most powerful and most unified Android phones ever.

What you won't be able to do is unlock your bootloader: Verizon's version of the Pixel will come with an unlockable bootloader. Although there is one detail that may irk some, if not most, Android users - it is keeping some exciting features exclusive for the Pixel phones.

Due to the open nature of Android, carriers and phone manufacturers are notorious for delaying important updates months or years later. It appears that will continue with the Pixel, even for Verizon devices, but when it comes to OS updates, rollout schedules will be Verizon's call. A Google rep has confirmed that Google will handle all of the monthly security updates for the Pixel, while Verizon themselves will be on the hook for bigger updates. Google Assistant is not something that you might use on a daily basis, but for those that will use it religiously, it is going to become a very handy tool for them. It makes sense why Google opted for the partnership given that it gets the phone in front of more eyeballs, but more discerning buyers should be aware that there's a better way to pick up Google's phone. However, three Verizon apps are mentioned under the preloaded Play Store apps tab. We already knew that the Pixel and Pixel XL will actually be sold not just through the Google Store, but also directly through carriers. The carrier is offering up to $300, depending on the condition of your phone. While this marks Google's first standalone physical venue, the company has played around with showroom-style installations and store-within-a-store shops.
