India all out for 318 after Jadeja cameo in Kanpur

Besides Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Dhoni and Kapil, the other former players who were honoured were Ajit Wadekar, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, K Srikkanth and Mohammad Azharuddin. Not only did they use their feet exceptionally well, they also attacked the loose ball without much fuss.

On Thursday, India won the toss and made a decision to bat first and were off to a solid start with fifties from Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay.

Starting the day on 291 for 9 with Jadeja on 16 and Umesh Yadav on 8, the tail-enders were left with the unenviable task of dodging New Zealand's bowling line-up. If the visitors can take India's last wicket on tomorrow 1st session it's going to be an interesting test match to watch.

Rohit Sharma (35) once again got a start only to throw it away at the fag end of the day. He nearly got Latham on a full toss, which the batsman missed.

New Zealand now trail the hosts by 166 runs with nine wickets remaining.

As well as New Zealand bowled during the final three hours, though, India must take a lot of the blame themselves, because the manner in which some of the batsmen got out was perfectly avoidable. The move proved aptly rewarding as the bowlers did a more then decent job throughout the day.

With India claiming to be in good position after the first day's play in the opening Test, New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner reckoned that his side was not in a bad position either, considering the kind of start the home team got.

Taking the second new ball, Boult took three wickets in nine balls. The Kiwis fielded three spinners Santner, offie Mark Craig and leg-break bowler Ish Sodhi, who bowled 59 out of the 90 overs. Vijay (65) and Cheteshwar Pujara (62) flattered to deceive.

If New Zealand is able to beat India by 1-0 or 2-1, they will move to the fifth position at 100 points with India one slot ahead on fourth with 104 points. While Vijay completed his 50 in the 40th over, Pujara caught up with him in the next.

Santner was the only Kiwi bowler to bag a wicket in the morning session. If you bowl in the right areas, it's still quite hard to play. His frustration could be judged from the way he hit his pad with the bat while returning to the pavilion.

Vijay was confident a score in the region of 300 would be enough for his team.

Rahul's last four innings in all formats had yielded two centuries and a fifty and the right-hander, chosen ahead of Shikhar Dhawan, dominated his 42-run stand with fellow opener Vijay.

There were big cheers when the Indian captain finally arrived. But he fell to a rash shot, attempting to pull Wagner for a six.
