Misano Motogp: Marquez Tops As Rossi Suffers In FP3

Eugene Laverty finished 14th in Sunday's San Marino MotoGP in Misano.

Jorge Lorenzo held his hands up and admitted he simply didn't have the pace to challenge race victor Dani Pedrosa or team-mate Valentino Rossi at Misano.

Dani Pedrosa has returned to form with a sensational victory at the San Marino Grand Prix, as Yamaha duo Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo completed the podium.

But is pleased he managed to keep series leader Marquez behind him, and having closed the gap to 43 points he revealed that beating the Repsol Honda rider was always a bonus. With one shot left, the Italian put in another, legal lap and took back his place on the front row - the only man to get within half a second of his teammate on pole.

Lorenzo eventually crossed the line in third, 1.522s behind Rossi, while Marquez faded to finish fourth, 9.569s adrift of his team-mate. He was running around one second ahead of the field before Pedrosa moved into second.

Lorenzo, a victor in Qatar, France and Italy this term, has plummeted from first to third in the championship since his triumph at Mugello and trails Marquez by 64 points. Alvaro Bautista (Spa) Aprilia - 44:17.492 World Championship standings (after race 13 of 18): 1. Although many of them spoiled Pedrosa's podium celebrations by chanting for Rossi as he drank spumante from his boot - the Italian mimicking the antics of Australia's Jack Miller when he won his maiden MotoGP race at Assen earlier this year - the Italian readily accepted defeat. I don't know what I have to [say] with you, what I have to say with [Marc] Marquez in Silverstone, when he overtakes 10 times like this. "But then I saw Pedrosa and I thought, "No way.' He was faster than me". However, his three wins in the MotoGP class on the Riviera di Rimini have all come after he started from second place on the grid.

Rossi: At this moment I don't remember, but if you check the race, if you check the tape, 100 times to me.

"I was anxious at the start of the race", he said.

"When did I start to believe I could win?"

Lining up third on the grid, completing the front row, was Yamaha-bound Maverick Vinales, fresh from his win at the British round of the championship last week.
