Cutler trade to Cleveland in the works?

When news first broke of the botched trade proposal for QB Jay Cutler between Denver and several other teams, many around the league (including yours truly) shook their heads in wonder.

Teams simply do not trade away a Pro Bowl quarterback entering their prime.

But as laughable as it sounds, the Broncos are still toying with the idea of trading away their Pro Bowl QB at some point this off-season, and this time it’s a very real possibility.

According to BroncosFreaks.com, Denver is currently exploring a potential trade with the Browns that would send Cutler to Cleveland in exchange for QB Brady Quinn, DT Shaun Rogers, and the Browns third round pick in this year’s draft.

Obviously, that trade package would be of interest to most teams, but giving up on a proven QB that is fresh off a Pro Bowl season is not an easy sell, especially for a fan base that has embraced that QB as the heir apparent to a Hall of Famer.

Quinn has talent for sure, but he has yet to have displayed enough to convince his critics of his legitimacy as a NFL quarterback, which is why this deal holds major pitfalls for the Broncos. If they trade away a proven commodity in Cutler, in return for a relative unknown in Quinn, they could very well be setting themselves up for a major fall in the near future, should Quinn fail to live up to the expectations placed upon him.

Despite the absurdity in trading away Cutler in the first place, I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal is consummated between Denver and another club at some point soon, given the growing level of distrust between Cutler and rookie head coach Josh McDaniels at this point. Neither side seems to care much for the other, and that is a recipe for a breakup if I’ve ever seen one.

Either way, we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for any news on this, so keep it locked right here for the latest as it breaks.
