Round One (17-32)

As promised, here’s the second half of our mock for round one in 2010. Obviously it’s still early on in the season, so things are certainly subject to change from week to week.

Feel free to comment as you like and offer suggestions for picks!

Draft order is based on NFLNR’s week eleven power rankings with the exception of picks #31 and #32, as I’ve predicted the Super Bowl teams for those two spots.

* Updated on 11/17/09

17. Tim Tebow (Quarterback – Florida)

He may not be a traditional QB, but at the very least, Tebow will bring excitement to the fans in Jacksonville, given his ability to score from almost any part of the field. And right now, all that matters in the eyes of ownership is the receipts at the ticket box.

Previous pick: Same

18. Damian Williams (Wide Receiver – USC)

Williams has been hurt a bit this season, but his potential to become a top notch receiver at the next level will be hard for the Ravens to ignore, especially after watching their current crew play so poorly this year.

Previous pick: Joe Haden (CB)

19. Carlos Dunlap (Defensive End – Florida)

Dunlap’s poor work ethic and lackluster play recently drop him down the board this far, but the Eagles would be wise to take him regardless, given his tremendous potential.

Previous pick: Same

20. Sean Weatherspoon (Linebacker – Missouri)

“Spoon” has been a tackling machine for the Tigers this season and while his team hasn’t played all that well overall, he’ll be tremendous pro for the team that’s lucky enough to get him.

Previous pick: Same

21. Ras-I Dowling (Cornerback – Virginia)

Seeing the Texans draft this low would be a surprise for sure, but they’d be ecstatic if Dowling is still on the board here, as they’re in need of a long term solution at corner.

Previous pick: Same

22. Charles Brown (Offensive Tackle – USC)

No this isn’t a joke Packer fan… Charlie Brown could be your new starting tackle next season. All jokes aside, Brown would be a steal for Green Bay here, and given the current status of their O-line, they’d be wise to grab him ASAP.

Previous pick: Same

23. Jahvid Best (Running Back – California)

(From DEN) With their O-line need set earlier in the round, the Seahawks can turn to getting a reliable runner with this pick. Best is a home run threat almost every time he touches the ball and should fit in nicely with Seattle’s offense.

Previous pick: Same

24. Bruce Campbell (Offensive Tackle – Maryland)

The Cowboys would love to get Rolando McClain here, but with him gone much earlier, they’ll probably turn to upgrading their O-line instead. Campbell isn’t the best one available by any means, but he’ll get the job done at tackle for Dallas next season.

Previous pick: Brandon Spikes (LB)

25. Von Miller (Defensive End/Linebacker – Texas A&M)

The Steelers defense is always among the best in the league because they consistently draft well and upgrade their talent on that side of the ball. Picking Miller here is no exception, as he’salready shown the ability to get after the QB and play in coverage if need be.

Previous pick: Trent Williams (OT)

26. Vince Oghobaase (Defensive Tackle – Duke)

Oghobaase is a beast of a DT, weighing in a 310 lbs. but he’s athletic enough that he can get after the quarterback as well. Depending on what happens in free agency, the Chargers may find themselves in dire need of his services next fall.

Previous pick: Von Miller (DE/LB)

27. Brandon LaFell (Wide Receiver – LSU)

The Cards will be likely be looking to replace Steve Breaston thanks to free agency, and while LaFell definitely will need some tutelage before he realizes his potential at the next level, playing alongside the likes of Boldin and Fitzgerald every week will make that process an easy one.

Previous pick: Dez Bryant (WR)

28. Arrelious Benn (Wide Receiver – Illinois)

The addition of Benn would give Tom Brady three standout receivers to throw to next season, making the job of opposing defenses that much more difficult. Benn has displayed soft hands, great speed, and a knack for making big plays, which should bode well for his chances at playing in Foxborough next fall.

Previous pick: Same

29. Jermaine Gresham (Tight End – Oklahoma)

Gresham is by far the best tight end available in this class, as he has been dominant for the Sooners throughout his collegiate career. Adding him to an already potent Bengals offense almost isn’t fair, but you can never have enough talent in the NFL in my experience.

Previous pick: Same

30. Brandon Graham (Defensive End – Michigan)

The Vikings are another team with very few holes in their starting roster, but left defensive end is one of those spots, so picking Graham here makes sense. Graham won’t wow you with his stats, but he’s been as solid as they come in Ann Arbor, and should be a solid pro if given the right opportunity.

Previous pick: Same

31. Earl Thomas (Safety – Texas)

Darren Sharper isn’t going to be around forever, so the Saints would be wise to invest in the future by taking a safety early on. Thomas has plenty of ability and his 40 time will leave scouts drooling, but he may not be ready for primetime just yet. Still a wise move to get him here.

Previous pick: Same

32. Trevard Lindley (Cornerback – Kentucky)

The Colts really don’t have a ton of needs right now, so they can afford to draft talent regardless of position instead of focusing their efforts on one spot. Lindley is definitely deserving of the nod here, as he is lightning fast and can make all the plays needed to be a successful NFL corner. His big play ability won’t hurt either.

Previous pick: Same

    Lions drafting a WR?

    Are you related to me???

  • Craig

That’s a dream beginning to the Eagles draft and honestly think there is no
D in the nfl that would be able to stop Westbrook/Curtis/Jackson/Harvin&
Pettigrew. Then we need a good not great fullback.

I don’t see the miami dolphins drafting a defensive end with the 1st pick, yeah they release Vonnie , but they have last year 2nd round pick Phillip Merlin and Randy Stark compeiting for that spot this year,on the other side they have Kendall Langford A steal we have last year in the 3rd round, I should agree with you if you had a big defensive tackle or a big outside linebacker, but a defensive end I don’t think so.
