Kansas unemployment rate rises for third consecutive month

The Department of Labor said the number of new unemployment benefit claims also fell in August by 23.6 percent.

The unemployment rate in MA dropped to 3.9 percent in August, according to the state the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Year over year, Georgia overall added 104,000 jobs, giving the state a total of 4,387,200 positions in August.

"And in addition to marking the lowest unemployment rate of my administration, we can also say that we have the least number of unemployed Alabamians in more than eight years".

In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 4.4 percent, down from 4.6 percent in July. The last time the number of unemployed persons was at or below 116,361 was May 2008, when the number measured 113,343. Counties with the highest unemployment rates are: Wilcox County at 13.8 percent, Clarke County at 11.1 percent and Perry County at 10.9 percent.

The United States added an estimated 151,000 jobs in August, slightly less than economists' forecasts. The current state labor force and employment levels are about 360,000 below 2001 levels. The job gains were offset somewhat by losses in construction, 3,500; health care and social assistance, 2,200; manufacturing, 2,100; and other services, 2,000.

There were 30,300 fewer unemployed residents and 73,000 more employed residents in August 2016 compared to August 2015.

The EDD reported that 80,100 San Diegans were unemployed in August out of a civilian labor force of nearly 1.6 million people.

"With job creation and small business success widely attributed to consumer confidence and spending, it is hard to ignore Seattle's rising minimum wage and the role boosting the wages of the lowest-level earners played in earning them the top spot on the list", said the Alliance statement. They use this rate because it is downward trending while the unemployment rate has been steadily improving for almost six years.
