Lions lose Smith to knee injury
The news that Detroit did not want to hear showed up earlier today, as the MRI for running back Kevin Smith came back showing a definite tear of a ligament in his left knee. Smith will head to the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season and began the long road of rehabilitation and recovery following surgery later on this week.
His production in the Lions offense will be missed, as he had rushed for 747 yards on 211 carries and 4 touchdowns up to this point in the season. Detroit will now turn to a combination of running backs in Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown to carry the load from here on out.
Smith suffered the injury late in the game last Sunday against Baltimore, after his knee gave way and he fell to the turf in agony. The Lions lost the game 48-3.
