Bears bring June in off the street

Three seasons ago, Cato June was a big part of Indianapolis’ Super Bowl team. Now he’s playing for the squad he helped defeat in that game, joining Chicago today in an effort by the Bears to solidify a porous defense.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the deal, and while the exact figures are not known, it’s doubtful that it’s much higher than a pro rated portion of the league minimum. June left the Colts two years ago for a contract with Tampa Bay, but he’s been out of the league for most of this season, after being cut by the Texans earlier this year.

June will likely see minimal playing time for now, but given the way Chicago’s defense has played in recent weeks, they may bring him up to speed quickly to give their starters a break from the action when need be.
