Vikings looking to lock up Housh

The Vikings took a major leap forward last year, trading away multiple draft picks for Pro Bowl DE Jared Allen and spending a boatload of cash to bring in WR Bernard Berrian.

Unfortunately, it didn’t amount to a playoff victory, but if luck will have it, they may end up taking an even bigger jump forward this off-season by signing the top receiver on the market in T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the star WR stayed overnight in the Twin Cities after a long negotiation session with the team yesterday. That factor, along with Housh’s stated desire to play with Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could indicate that the team is on the verge of signing the enigmatic playmaker to bulk up their offensive firepower once more.

Adding Houshmandzadeh to a Vikings squad loaded with talent could spell major problems for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, as Minnesota would be blessed with gamechanging players in every skill position on the offense, save one. The quarterback position is still a point of contention for the team, although Friday’s acquisition of QB Sage Rosenfels could help in that regard, and it can’t hurt any QB to have so many weapons to work with.

It’s likely that a decision will be made, one way or another by Housh at some point this afternoon, so keep it locked right here for the latest update.
