Amazon Key Lets Couriers Deliver Parcels Inside Your Home

The security services are marketed as a feature for your benefit, but it's also allowing a company 24-hour access and video footage into your home. Amazon Business customers also enjoy a variety of benefits, including business-only pricing and selection, a multi-seller marketplace, approval workflow, purchasing system integrations, payment solutions and dedicated customer support. Members will be able to authorise delivery services to unlock their home remotely using the app. With Amazon Key installed, the courier scans the package's bar code which sends an access request to Amazon's cloud. The program, called Amazon Key, marks what might be greatest push by any organization to goad in-home delivery.

This state-of-the-art technology doesn't simply replace a key with a digital passcode.

Amazon at its discretion may choose to correct a service not completed to satisfaction, to refund the cost of a purchase and pay for up to $2,500 in property damage, or to help file a claim against the service provider's insurance. Once that's complete, the door unlocks and the Cloud Cam starts recording.

While Amazon can direct its delivery employees to enter a home, the homeowner can control who else can come in when they aren't around.

On top of that, anyone who wants to sign up for Amazon Key will have to own a compatible smart lock and one of Amazon's slick new connected cameras - the Amazon Cloud Cam. Customers can install the kits themselves or take advantage of free professional installation.

There's just one big catch - you need to trust Amazon to wirelessly unlock your front door to let your deliveryman or woman into your home without you there.

Inc. said in-home delivery will be available November 8 in 37 cities, including Atlanta, Cleveland and Denver. The current top comment to Amazon's promotional video on YouTube notes that, "This is kinda scary [to be honest]".

Whew, crisis averted. This Amazon Key service is so easy and convenient! When paired with certain third-party smart locks, which Amazon is bundling with a Cloud Cam for $249.99, Prime customers can use their Cloud Cam and an iOS app to let Amazon Logistics' delivery people unlock their home and leave packages inside. "Now, Prime members can select in-home delivery and conveniently see their packages being delivered right from their mobile phones".

The woman in Amazon's promotional video doesn't seem to have a problem with letting a stranger into her home when she's not there.
